Learn more about Becky’s life and career in her own words below:
What do you do? Sain Associates is a consulting firm of civil engineers and surveyors. As COO, I oversee corporate operations for the firm including human resources, strategic planning and branch office operations. Since I am a transportation planner, I also serve as principal-in-charge on Sain’s transportation planning projects.
What do you like most about your job? I love problem solving and the great variety of projects and assignments that cross my desk. I also enjoy interacting with and helping our clients and staff.
How did you get started in your career? I was introduced to traffic planning and engineering by a family member who helped me get my first job in a consulting firm. I didn’t think I would stay in the field but was mentored by some great leaders and fell in love with the profession.
How do you unwind after a busy week? I love to read and sit on my back porch. Looking at the trees behind my house is very relaxing.
Fun Facts: I spent my early childhood in Nigeria where my parents were Southern Baptist missionaries, and I have a bachelor’s degree in art from Furman University.
Life Verse: “Be strong and courageous and get to work. Don’t be frightened by the size of the task, for the Lord my God is with you; he will not forsake you. He will see to it that everything is finished correctly.” 1 Chronicles 28:20 TLB | When I was young, I struggled with fear of failure which made me very timid. This verse has been a lifelong reminder that courage comes through trust in God’s leadership. With it, I can get to work knowing that he is ultimately in charge of the outcome.
Tell us about your family: I’ve been married for 32 years to Steve White, a financial planner and investment advisor. We have two grown children: Alex is a math PhD candidate at Florida State University, and Emily is a first-year elementary school art teacher at Huffman Academy in Birmingham.
What does WBL mean to you? Women Business Leaders was an answer to my prayer to find a group of Christian businesswomen who could provide encouragement and support as I grew in my career. I especially love the diversity present in WBL members, the spiritual teaching, and the new friendships I’ve made through the group.
