“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matt. 11:28-30

In Matthew Chapter 11-we read an amazing invitation! The invitation is not to a vacation, to a church, or even to another religious function. The invitation is to the Lord of creation-Jesus Christ!

The promise to those who humbly come is that our souls find rest! And it is rest and restoration that our souls long for! It is interesting that so few are willing to come; it isn’t that we don’t want rest and restoration, but that we want it our way and on our terms.

Jesus, as one who is gentle and humble, invites us to yoke ourselves to Him and walk with Him down His path–and that is a picture of surrender. Surrender is not a popular word in our culture, yet it is one of the primary attributes of a disciple.

The irony is that a life of surrender leads not to defeat–but true life and victory. Jesus is calling the weary to rest and restoration. Will we answer His call?
