It’s definitely a question on the minds and hearts of many as we celebrate Thanksgiving 2020. For many, 2020 has been a train wreck. From COVID, to political and rational tensions…2020 has been tough.

I was on vacation last week. It was a great week of relaxation, reading and of course…some awesome food! It was also good to disconnect and pray and think about 2020 and the possibilities of 2021. The Lord brought me to several verses in the Psalms about thanksgiving that I want to leave with you:

Psalm 107:1 – Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!

Psalm 7:17 – I will give to the Lord the thanks due to his righteousness, and I will sing praise to the name of the Lord, the Most High.

Psalm 100:4 – Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name!

Psalm 105:1 – Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples!

Psalm 9:1 – I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart; I will recount all of your wonderful deeds.

As I sat with the Lord for extended periods of time, I could not help but be reminded of God’s faithful activity around me even during the year that everyone (me included) wants to forget…2020. So, I started a list that I plan to continue to add to over the next few weeks. 2020 has been a challenge, but in the midst of the challenge I was able to see God’s work in my life, my families lives and in the ministry of YBL in Jackson. Wow!!! God is good even in the tough times of life!

Here is my encouragement to you.

  • Take some time to slow down and reflect on God’s goodness in 2020. Trust me…you will find His fingerprints all of your life. Be reminded that God is always working for His glory even in the most challenging of seasons.
  • Share about God’s faithfulness to you with someone in your life that has had a tough 2020. Remind them of God’s love for them and pray a prayer of hope and encouragement over them.

Happy Thanksgiving 2020!
