Baton Rouge Relief Effort

January 19, 2017 - January 21, 2017

East Baton Rouge had 60,000 homes and 120,000 structures flooded last August. Because of the extraordinary nature of the flood (30+ inches of rain in two days), most of the people flooded have fallen through an insurance loophole. Families have been deeply financially impacted as businesses have been unable to operate and federal aid has been minuscule. Families facing six figure losses have received several thousand dollars in aid. As a result, most repairs are being done by the families and volunteers. We praise God (from firsthand accounts) that it has been the church which has given the greatest response and made the largest impact on the lives of this community

A number of YBL men took part in the initial disaster relief in September—we were greatly encouraged by how many of them–despite short notice–responded with offers to help, go and give. We sent a dozen men down, aided in the repairs on two homes, and through your contributions helped assist the MNA (Mission to North America) Disaster relief group to purchase a 14,000 LB rated trailer for hauling drywall and supplies. We have been asked by the local organizers if we would consider returning to help more families. There was a rush to help initially, but now the need remains for many, and yet there less help and national attention on their situation. In response to MNA’s request for help, we are making a second trip down January 19-21.
