God IS Able! I was in a Bible study recently, and the text for the day was Jude verses 24-25: “”To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy—to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.” We also looked at 2 other passages in the New Testament where the Apostle Paul also declared, “God is able.” These were Romans 16:25, “Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ,” and Ephesians 3:20, “Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us.” God is able…and willing!

Now, God is not the fabled “Genie in the Bottle”—to serve us and our selfish ambitions, but He IS Able to fulfill His purposes in us and His promises towards us. He IS able, because He IS God Almighty! I find this very encouraging in a day of great uncertainty. All of what we know in this life is broken and tainted by sin. All of our life experiences are impacted by broken people and broken promises…whether it be in the keeping of our marriage vows or in business contracts that are signed. So much of our lives are affected by broken promises.

But God is not like us. He is faithful. He is Good, and His plans for us will end in triumph. Not that we always experience the “outward” manifestation of triumph on this side of eternity. But we can always experience it spiritually through personal trust in Him. His plans for you and I cannot be frustrated. He will bring it to pass. He is God Almighty, and we can find great comfort in knowing that He always keeps His promises! May we find great comfort in this truth!
