Dear friends,
Cancer. Alzheimer’s. Suicide. Broken relationships. Broken marriages. Churches in conflict. Birth defects. Stillborn babies. Special needs children. All of these are hardships that carry with them gut-wrenching emotions. I have heard all of these challenges in this last week in different conversations.
Our hearts cry out to know there is meaning and purpose that transcends all these issues. We need a God who never changes, is always faithful and gives us everlasting hope. We need a Savior who loves us despite our sins, failures and disobedience and is willing to die on our behalf. We need Someone with whom we can rest in His comfort, grieve with our sorrows and guide us to the truth. One whom we can trust to always have our best interest and His glory in mind.
We have such a God. We have a Savior who has demonstrated that kind of love for us. We have His Spirit that empowers us and walks with us every step of the way. We have an awesome and personal God!
In his book Safe in the Shepherd’s Arms Max Lucado speaks of our God. God – our Shepherd – doesn’t check the weather; He makes it. He doesn’t define gravity; He created it. He has no limitations – so He can be equally active in Cambodia as He is in Connecticut. Philosophers can debate the meaning of life, but you need the Lord who can declare the meaning of life.
These challenges that we all face, are beyond our control problems. They need God-size solutions. The answer is God Himself. I have to recognize this in my own life, as I counsel others, and as I seek to maintain a grateful heart. Will you join me in this quest and point others to Him?
We have just come off an extremely successful sporting clays fundraiser and we are still meeting with men from our Ed Kobel banquet. A new group will start in two weeks. Our golf marathon is coming up May 10th, our Bernhard Langer dinner banquet May 16th, and we are securing our Summer Series speakers. Mentoring continues to flourish and God is raising up men (and women for WBL) who desire to follow Him.
Thank you for your prayers, your interest, your support, and your involvement. Despite all the difficulties, it is an opportune time to live for Christ.
Here is Max Lucado again. You don’t need to carry the burden of the lesser god…a god on the shelf, a god in a box, or a god in a bottle. No, you need a God who can place 100 billion stars in our galaxy, and 100 billion galaxies in the universe. You need a God who can shape two fists of flesh into 75 to 100 billion nerve cells each with as many as 10,000 connections to other nerve cells, place it a skull and call it a brain. And you need a God who, while [having such] mind – numbingly might, can come in the soft of night and touch you with the tenderness of April snow. You need Yahweh. He is your Shepherd.
