Most of our lives are spent doing the mundane.  We get up and go through our regular routines… to get ready for another “routine” day– only to find ourselves weary at days end so that we can get up and do it all over again.    The result of all of this is that we find ourselves living for “the weekend” or some “big and exciting” event that will sustain us until we can get to the next one!

If this is the way we view our lives, then most of life must simply be “endured”… so that we can enjoy a few moments of satisfaction on “the weekends.”

I am so thankful that God has provided a better way!

True joy and satisfaction come from fellowship with Christ– not from people, events or things.   King Solomon was one who had it all– position, possessions, and popularity (not to mention wisdom!).  But in all this, his realization was that these things offered no “real” enjoyment or satisfaction.  True satisfaction came from walking with His God through the ordinary events of life– like eating and drinking, and cutting the grass, and going to work, and coming home from work, and…. etc.

“A person can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in their own toil. This too, I see, is from the hand of God, for without him, who can eat or find enjoyment?  To the person who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness…”(Eccl. 2:24-26).

Life lived in fellowship with Christ is where our joy and satisfaction are found, and we can walk in fellowship with Him in every thing that we do- no matter how mundane it seems. Only a fool would spend his life living for those few and fleeting moments of enjoyment when we can experience it every moment of everyday.  May we learn afresh to find our delight in God in the ordinary things of life!  Life is too short to live it any other way!working-business-man
