What breaks your heart? We will get back to the questions of “What breaks God’s Heart” shortly. What grabs your heart and twists to the point tears begin to pour from your eyes and you begin to feel a bit uneasy? I could begin to list many things that break our hearts and the emotions of that list would be very real.

I was recently with a group of pastors and church leaders leading this discussion around this topic. For half an hour, the group listed off situation after situation that broke their heart. Nods of agreement were all around the room. To my surprise, no one in the room said LOST PEOPLE. Do not get me wrong. Everything that was said was real and heart breaking and I know that those things stir in the heart of God, but no one mentioned lost people. My fear is that we have lost the priority of evangelism.

There is a line in Hillsong United’s song Hosanna that says “break my heart for what breaks yours, everything I am for your kingdom’s cause”… I am certain that the Lord’s heart is broken over the situations and circumstances that were discussed at the meeting. I am also certain that lost people, people that have never started a relationship with Jesus, break God’s heart in a huge way. If that breaks God’s heart, it certainly ought to break my heart.

Consider the following:

95% of all Christians have never won a soul to Christ.

80% of all Christians do not consistently witness for Christ.

Less than 2% are involved in the ministry of evangelism.

We have been commanded and commissioned by Jesus to “go” and invest our lives into the lost people around us.

Matthew 28:16-20

16 The 11 disciples traveled to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had directed them. 17 When they saw Him, they worshiped, but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

I want to encourage you to pray and ask God to break your heart for lost people. They are your neighbors, co-workers, people you see at the gym…they are everywhere. They may even live in your house. No more excuses and no more waiting. Let’s get to the task that we have been called to by our Heavenly Father. Remember, your ability is not what Jesus is asking for…He is looking for your availability. Your availability and His empowering Holy Spirit can be used to reach people that are lost without Jesus.

If lost people break God’s heart…lost people need to break my heart and your heart!
