We held our latest Young Professional Forum yesterday where Zack Penney, President of Bill Penney Automotive Company, opened up about some of his personal struggles with sin, and how he has sought to confront and conquer them through the accountability of others and God’s all-enabling power.

I was so grateful that Zack was willing to “open” his life to us—and tell his story of brokenness…. and God’s redemption!   That is powerful!!   And as Zack said, “It really is God’s story!”

We all struggle with sin—every one of us!  The question is—how are we seeking to deal with it in our lives?  Some seek to co-exist with it.  Some are running towards it…and others choose, by God’s grace, to fight it!

It has been said that, “Sin will take us farther than we are willing to go.  It will cause us to stay longer than we are willing to stay, and it will cost us more than we are able to pay!”   Sin destroys!  Always!

Zack offered some advice…

  1. Call your sin—sin! Don’t rationalize it.  Don’t down-play it.   See it for what it is—and for what it does:  it destroys!
  2. Bring your sin into the light of God grace…and find others who can support you, pray for you, and who can hold you accountable.
  3. Fight! As Christians, God has provided us with the means to battle sin and the spiritual warfare we face. We need to employ all that God has provided.  See Ephesians 6:10-18.

As the Apostle Peter said, “Seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness…” (2 Pet. 1:3); may we seek to draw upon the power of Christ and the power of accountability….and may we (with God’s help) fight against sin and it’s effect on our lives– to God’s Glory!
