Introducing WBL Friday Features! We want to highlight some of the amazing women who participate in our ministry. To kick things off, meet Setara Foster! Setara is a Partner and Trial Attorney at Moore, Young, Foster & Hazelton, LLP. Setera has served on the WBL Board since 2014. Thank you for being an essential part of our ministry, Setara! Read more about Setara’s life and career in her own words below:

Tell us about your job: I defend individuals and companies in civil lawsuits in Alabama state and federal courts against products liability, commercial transportation, medical malpractice, and catastrophic injury claims.  I am also an adjunct professor of Basic Skills in Trial Advocacy and trial team coach at Samford University-Cumberland School of Law.

What do you enjoy most about your job? I like the complexity of litigation and trial.  On the litigation side, there’s a lot of research and problem solving.  It involves taking big issues and breaking them down to their smallest parts, then solving one small part at a time.  Trial is like game day.  It involves a lot of thinking on your feet, adjusting to the room, and connecting with people, all of which I enjoy.

Where did you go to school? The University of Texas at Dallas (B.A. Political Science; Minor: Economics) and Samford University, Cumberland School of Law (Doctor of Jurisprudence)

What advice would you give to your younger self? Avoid the student loans and invest in Google.

What’s a fun fact about you many people do not know? I’m not sure it’s a secret, but I know all the words to Hamilton. (Every. Single. Word.) Also, I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan.

What was your first job? Cashier at HEB Grocery Store in North Shore, Texas

What’s one thing you are thankful for this year? I am thankful for the resilience of the human spirit.  So many things went wrong this year.  Everyone had to adapt, adjust, and regroup.  Through it all, I saw people spending more time with family, reclaiming a long-lost passion, and focusing on the good instead of the bad.  We have a long way to go, but I am certainly more optimistic about humanity than I was on January 1, 2020.

What does WBL mean to you? I love that WBL is a judgment-free zone for women who chose the unconventional path of working outside of the home.  Being in The South, there is still a stigma attached to women to seek to achieve it all: love, motherhood, and a career.  WBL gives working women the opportunity to connect and decompress and find comfort and rest in the Lord, which is something I think we lack.  It’s an essential element of my self-care regimen!
