What does your job entail? I’m a member of the Corporate Secretarial team for Alabama Power, which is a division of the General Counsel’s organization.  We are responsible for corporate governance, which primarily means we work with the Board of Directors to ensure compliance with our corporate bylaws, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.

What do you like most about your job? I love the intersection of law and business. I enjoy learning about the various regulations companies are required to adhere to and being part of ensuring Alabama Power meets them.

Tell us how you got started in your career: I graduated from Auburn University and the University of Alabama School of Law.  After law school, I did a one-year clerkship with Senator Jeff Sessions in Washington, DC.  While there, I fell in love with the city and with the work. I ended up staying for five years, working for another senator and as an advisor to a Commissioner at the Federal Communications Commission. I returned to Birmingham in 2009 and was in private practice with a firm before joining Alabama Power.

What advice would you give your younger self? It’s okay to not have a “Five Year Plan”! Especially in the corporate world, young people are constantly told they need to map out their career path for the next five years. I’ve been asked to do it many times and rarely has my plan actually come to pass. I think it’s important to remember that the Lord’s plan is bigger than anything we could ask or imagine.

What’s a fun fact about you many people do not know? When I was five years old, I was in the Sears catalog. Some of my friends and I were pictured on the slides and swing sets.  It was my first and only “modeling” gig!

Where do you attend church? I’ve been a member of the Church at Brook Hills for the past 10 years. I’ve been part of a small group and served as a greeter. I’m getting married in January 2021 and will be transitioning to Dawson. (If anyone goes there, please reach out, as I’d love to make some new friends!)

Life Verse: Isaiah 41:10: “Fear not, for I am with you. Be not dismayed, for I am God.  I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you. I will uphold you in my righteous right hand.” I’ve been clinging to these words of assurance for as long as I can remember. Anyone can say, “Don’t be afraid, I’ll go with you.” But nobody else can back that up with “and I am God!”

Why are you involved in WBL? I believe there is a great need for a ministry for women in the workplace. Women in the business world have so much to balance and finding time for Bible study and fellowship can be challenging. I love that WBL brings these two things to women at exactly where they are. No need to leave your office!
