God is with you at your work

Even though people and responsibilities surround us, a deep sense of isolation and resentment can exist in us at work. We may begin to wonder why something meant for our good can also bring so much physical and emotional strain. Yet, Scripture shows that God does not waste our work but uses it as a place where we learn to depend on His presence. 

David writes in Psalms 16:11: 

You make known to me the path of life; 
  in Your presence there is fullness of joy; 
   at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.  

God’s presence means everything. God’s presence provides joy. God’s presence brings blessings. God’s presence gives our lives meaning. 

The Israelites took comfort in knowing that their God was with them. Whether His presence was in the ark of the covenant, a pillar of fire and smoke, or in the Temple, God’s presence provided the strength to keep persevering in their day-to-day lives. However, there were times when God’s Spirit did not dwell among them. 

But in Ezekiel 36:7, God promised that one day He would give his people His Spirit permanently. He says, “And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.” 

During the upper room discourse in John 14:16-18, Jesus reassures the disciples that this promise is about to be fulfilled. He says, “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, to be with you forever,even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. You know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.” 

This Helper (or comforter in Greek) is the Holy Spirit. God gives Himself as a gift to those who trust in Him for salvation. He gives Himself to you so that His presence is always with you. This gift is yours TODAY. 

This changes everything about our work. We no longer work alone. We no longer work unhappily. We no longer work for financial gain. We no longer work without a purpose.
