The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. Psalm 23:1

How did I get here? I have asked myself that question many times, and often, it’s been a time of difficulty or hardship. However, sometimes I have experienced great, unexpected blessings and asked the very same question. How did I get here?

As David surveyed his life, his answer to the question is: “The Lord is my shepherd.”

How did I overcome Goliath? The Lord is my shepherd.

How did I survive with hostile enemies chasing me? The Lord is my shepherd.

How did I become a king over Israel? The Lord is my shepherd.

The image of God as the shepherd of His people brings comfort and peace. It reassures us of God’s provision (I shall not want), His peace (lying down in green pastures and being led beside still water), and His protection (I will fear no evil when He is present). It reminds us that even when we face challenges or opposition, His loving hand will provide all we need.

Where are you today? If you’re facing temptation, the Lord is your shepherd and can guide you safely through it. If you’re facing hardship, the Lord is your shepherd and will bear you up and bind your wounds. If you’re experiencing great blessing, the Lord is your shepherd, and He is causing your cup to overflow.

How did you get where you are? The Lord is your shepherd.
