Hebrews 13:7 Remember your leaders, who spoke the Word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.
Dear friends,
This past weekend I experienced a taste of what heaven might be like. Anne and I had a chance to be with 75 people that had come on staff with Campus Crusade, now Cru, from UGA. It was a blessed, inspiring, encouraging and sobering time. We shared tragedies like losing a child, wayward kids, loss of jobs and loss of spouses. There were talks of amazing successes such as God placing some of us in very high positions, ministries started, and children continuing the legacy. We spoke of God’s grace and faithfulness.
The resounding theme of the group was what God had started in our hearts back then, we want to continue. Unreservedly we want to follow Him until we meet Him face-to-face. People have continued to serve on staff with Cru; others have become pastors and counselors. Still others are serving their communities in non-profits and businesses as full-time Christians. One person spoke of the blessing of seeing spiritual children and grandchildren in heaven.
As I reflect on this weekend a few things come to mind. We must continue to cultivate an intimate relationship with the Lord. We must have friends that will hold us accountable and cheer us on to finish well. We must keep the vision of the Great Commission ever before us and strive by the Holy Spirit’s power to achieve that goal. We need avenues that channel and challenge us from our college years to the strategic roles God wants us to play.
These thoughts so reinforce what we do at YBL. We challenge men to have that intimate walk with the Lord. We give them opportunities to share their faith and be a part of the Great Commission. We hold them accountable and encourage them to serve faithfully in their businesses, families, churches and communities. We are a bridge from the college campus to the business world enhancing their vision of their importance to God and the significant role they play in His Kingdom.
Thank you for laboring with this. I am grateful for you. Please pray that we continue the capture men early in their careers and help believers continue to fulfill what God has already built strongly in their hearts. Pray with us that we will see men trust Christ so families, businesses, and communities will be transformed. I pray that all who read this correspondence will finish well.
We concluded our time singing the song we sang many times during our college years –
He’s Everything to Me. The chorus goes like this:
‘Til by faith I met Him face to face
And I felt the wonder of His grace
Then I knew that He was more
Than just a God who didn’t care
That lived away out there
And now He walks beside me day by day
Ever watching o’er me lest I stray
Helping me to find that narrow way
He’s ev’rything to me.
The important question we need to ask every day – is He?
